The Chair for Speech Technology and Cognitive Systems
The chair was filled with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Birkholz in 2020 and researches at the confluence of speech technology, phonetics, and machine learning.
The major research topics are the multi-modal simulation of speech and language acquisition, the development of mechanical vocal tract models for embodied cognitive simulations of speech production, the investigation of Brain-Computer-Interfaces to control speech synthesis systems and Silent-Speech-Interfaces.
The chair offers the mandatory lecture Signal Processing and the facultative modules Intelligent Audio Signal Processing and Speech Technology in the advanced studies. The chair is well-connected within the faculty and the TU Dresden in general, as well as with numerous research institutes of other universities. We also entertain close relationships with a number of companies from the fields of speech and signal processing and pattern recognition.
The Speech Technology and Cognitive Systems group consists of budgetarily financed scientific and technical employees, who are particularly invested in teaching and administrative tasks, as well as third-party funded project members. It was founded in 1969 to assume educational and research tasks in the field of speech communication and offers many years of experience in a major subspace of cognitive systems.
