IHM and IPF showcase new robotic hand in COSMO exhibition in Kulturpalast
Multi-Matrix Composites for Flexible and Resilient Robotic Hands 🤖
Conventional robotic grippers made of metal are stable but can easily damage fragile objects. Soft silicone grippers adapt more easily to shapes, but their load-bearing capacity is limited.
💡 The solution? Multi-Matrix Composites (MMC) with silicone sheathing: joints that combine soft and stiff materials, deform in a targeted way, and transmit high forces – while maintaining gentle handling.
Starting October 2, 2025, a prototype of our robotic hand will be on display at the exhibition “Mensch, Roboter!” at the Cosmo Science Forum Dresden.
This project was realized through close collaboration between TU Dresden, Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (IHM) and the Tailored Lightweight Composites Department from the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF).
This material innovation opens up new application possibilities – from healthcare to industrial settings – and helps to build trust in direct human-robot interaction.
