Talk "Accessibility in Brazil"
André Pimenta Freire, a professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) in Brazil, will speak on the current state of digital accessibility in Brazil on April 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room 1096 in Andreas-Pfitzmann-Bau.
Digital accessibility has become mandatory in Europe under the European Accessibility Act and affects, for example, workplace requirements and the services provided by public institutions. When mobile phones are the only way to participate in the information society, new challenges arise. Prof. Freire reports on the development of accessible applications and the evaluation of mobile applications in Brazil. To this end, he compares the quality of results obtained through automated testing, manual inspections, and user evaluations.
Prof. André Pimenta Freire leads the ALCANCE Research Group on Accessibility, Usability, and Computational Linguistics at the Institute of Computer Science at the Federal University of Lawras. He conducts research on the accessibility of information systems for people with disabilities and older adults, particularly regarding the digitization of public administration and the healthcare system.
