Chair of Industrial Communications
The chair focuses on integration processes in networked, flexible industrial automation systems. In research and teaching, topics are addressed covering modelling, design, configuration, operation and maintenance of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPS) for application in Industrie 4.0.
Chair of Industrial Communications
Digitalization and networking are revolutionizing our lives. Cyber-Physical Systems and flexible communication solutions are key technologies. They provide a main contribution for the transformation of industrial production towards ”Factories of the Future“.
Hence, the Chair of Industrial Communications at the Institute of Applied Computer Science of TU Dresden, founded in 2003, is focusing on integration processes in flexible, networked industrial automation systems.
Based on semantically enriched information models for automation and control functions, components and systems and on description languages, methods, concepts and solutions are explored for integrated engineering and management of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) und Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPS) along their whole life cycle. Applications in the context of Industrie 4.0 are in the spotlight.
On this basis, the chair is addressing the following research areas:
• Emulation of automation components
• 5G communications for Factories of the Future
• Data exchange formats in automation
• Middleware solutions for the management of production systems
Application areas for this research are numerous and are spread along the whole life cycle of automation systems. They particularly include:
• Configuration and commissioning
• Plug and produce
• Network management of heterogeneous networks
• Asset Management
• Condition Monitoring
In teaching, the chair addresses these topics in lectures, exercises, and in practical work as well as in student research projects and diploma thesis. The finished doctoral theses also belong to this research area.
Members of the chair contribute to different committees and working groups in order to structure current research areas and to introduce research results into application and standardization.
