Dresden becomes Germany's Robot Valley
Dresden becomes Germany's Robot Valley: Cluster of Excellence CeTI of TU Dresden and 6G-life Research Hub present their projects together at Dresden Robotics Festival 2021
Dresden is a key center for artificial intelligence and automation, which is demonstrated not least by the Cluster of Excellence CeTI (Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop) at Technische Universität Dresden and the 6G-life Research Hub in cooperation with TU München. From September 16-22, the two institutions will present five of their demonstrators at the Dresden Robotics Festival at the Erlweinforum. More than 300 executives from globally active robotics manufacturers, startups and research institutes will gather for the festival in "Robot Valley Saxony" to network in leading robotics research and foster industry innovation.
CeTI's high-profile innovations once again demonstrate the relevance of research for industry partners - the Cluster presents its projects at lectures, exhibition booths and showcases alongside renowned companies such as Siemens, Microsoft or Epson as well as alongside renowned researchers from Stanford (USA) and Sweden. Professor Frank H. P. Fitzek, spokesperson of the Cluster of Excellence CeTI as well as head of the Deutsche Telekom Chair for Communication Networks commented: "The cluster combines 5G research, communication, sensor technology, cloud computing, psychology, medicine as well as machine and human learning in three application areas -the start-up Wandelbots, among others, emerged from this." He will participate in several keynote speeches and panel discussions at the festival, along with other associated researchers from the Cluster of Excellence CeTI.
CeTI and its research partner 6G-life will bring a total of five demonstrators to the festival: The gesture recognition "Rock Paper Scissors" will wow everyone with innovations on the data glove. The surf demonstrator, in which a surfer will achieve learning success directly on the board through sensors and actuators, has been supplemented with full-body tracking. Other demonstrators include the robotic dog "Spot", a robotic application for future cancer surgery from the NCT (National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden) and the data glove from the CeTI spin-off Mimetik.
"With more than 60 international presenters," Festival Managing Director Thomas Schulz elaborates, "we will discuss robotics applications in everyday life, business management, and showcase world-class research with our local partners on the exhibitor floor and three performance stages."
CeTI's interdisciplinary research in electrical engineering, computer science, psychology, neuroscience and medicine involves more than 100 employees from 19 countries. Since 2019, the Cluster has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Excellence Strategy.
