A Look Behind the Scenes: Smart Mobility Lab in Schwarzkollm
Since 2024, the Smart Mobility Lab (SML) has been under construction in Schwarzkollm—a test facility over 40 meters high and one hectare in size designed for testing drones, autonomous vehicles, and agricultural robots.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, the Smart Mobility Lab (SML) opened its construction site to the public, offering visitors the opportunity to get an up-close look at one of Lusatia’s most significant research and structural transformation projects. The Faculty of Computer Science is also involved in this forward-looking project through the Chair of Networked Systems Modeling (held by Prof. Christoph Sommer) and the Chair of Software Technology (held by Prof. Uwe Aßmann). Through guided tours and presentations, interested visitors were able to get a firsthand look at the innovative technologies for connected, automated, and sustainable mobility.
District Administrator Udo Witschas and Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh were particularly prominent attendees; they addressed the guests with welcoming remarks at 1:00 p.m. In addition to the scientific insights, the Schwarzkollm Fire Department, the Rural Women’s Association, and the village association contributed to a well-rounded program with culinary offerings and informational booths. The event was very well received: numerous interested visitors took the opportunity to experience this forward-looking project up close.
