Euro-Par 2025: International community on parallel and distributed computing at TU Dresden

From August 25 to 29, 2025, TU Dresden hosted Euro-Par 2025 — the leading European conference covering all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. Around 250 researchers from around the world gathered to discuss current developments, research findings, and future perspectives: from theoretical foundations to practical applications, from system architectures and programming languages to compiler design, tools, infrastructures, and performance analysis.

The scientific program featured 7 workshops, 20 sessions across six thematic tracks, a comprehensive poster & demo session, the PhD Symposium poster session, and an artifact evaluation for open science. The special session of the Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) network provided a successful platform to enhance the visibility and networking of women in the community.

Highlights included three keynote lectures:

• Prof. Martin Schulz (TU Munich) spoke about the integration of high-performance computing with quantum accelerators, highlighting opportunities and technical challenges.
• Prof. Florina M. Ciorba (University of Basel) discussed how to balance performance, portability, and productivity for sustainable scientific computing in the age of AI.
• Prof. Domenico Talia (University of Calabria) presented data-centric parallelization strategies that are particularly promising for big data and AI applications.

“The conference program demonstrates the breadth and dynamism of international research in parallel and distributed systems,” summarized Prof. Dr. Wolfgang E. Nagel, General Chair of Euro-Par 2025.

The traditional Best Paper Session showcased the top contributions from the six tracks. The Euro-Par 2025 Best Paper Award went to Aurélien Delval, Pablo de Oliveira Castro, William Jalby, Etienne Renault for their Paper "Noise injection for performance bottleneck analysis". This year's Euro-Par Achievement Award was presented to Prof. Domenico Talia.

In her welcome address, Saxony’s State Secretary Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann emphasized:
“Powerful information infrastructures and innovative data-intensive methods are now the foundation for scientific and societal progress. Especially in an increasingly connected world, international collaboration is essential to develop common standards, establish opportunities for exchange, and assume responsibility for the digital future. The Euro-Par conference provides an excellent platform for this.”

Euro-Par 2025 demonstrates how important it is to collaborate across disciplines, national borders, and diverse backgrounds in order to further develop digital technologies responsibly and to create a sense of belonging for everyone," emphasized Prof. Dr. Roswitha Böhm, Vice-Rector for University Culture and International Affairs at TU Dresden.

In addition to scientific exchange, the reception at Palais im Großen Garten and the conference dinner overlooking Dresden’s historic skyline offered plenty of opportunities for networking and experiencing Dresden’s unique atmosphere.

By hosting Euro-Par 2025, TU Dresden once again demonstrated its status as an internationally recognized hub for cutting-edge research in digital technologies — and as a vibrant host for a major scientific community.The conference was organized by the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH), with support from other members of CIDS – Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences  as well as by the Institute of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science.
