3m5 Media GmbH awarded two prizes: The 3m5th Excellence Award for an outstanding dissertation in computer science, endowed with 3000 euros, went to Dr. Lars Engeln for his doctoral thesis on "The visualization of sound structures in the context of the development of tools for media production", with which he researched and structured the field of sound-images in an innovative way. To this end, he developed the online tools "Perceptudy" and "Studyboard". In the context of his research, he set up his own teaching program for the faculty, which is divided into three main areas: AudioProcessing, AudioInterfaces and Interactive Theater. Dr. Lars Engeln's work shows how semiotics, audio, design theory and computer science can be effectively combined.
Jonas Deepe received the 3m5 Excellence Award, endowed with 1500 euros, for his excellent diploma thesis on "Creation and evaluation of AI-based immission models for particulate matter". His work aims to ensure reliable predictions for particulate matter concentrations in order to avoid their consequences and damage to health. As part of his work, he developed the evalPM framework, which can be used to easily create, evaluate and compare different machine learning models for immission-based particulate matter prediction for a given use case.
Cloud&Heat Technologies GmbH awarded a second dissertation prize of 3000 euros in recognition of Dr. Mark Satkowski 's outstanding dissertation on "Understanding Immersive Environments for Visual Data Analysis". His work explores the effective visualization of complex data when using novel display and computing environments for interactive data analysis - such as virtual reality and augmented reality (AR). On the one hand, the focus is on users and their understanding of visualizations; on the other hand, the real environment in which the virtual AR content is displayed should be carefully considered.
The Saxony Media Solutions Prize, endowed with 1000 euros, honors an outstanding thesis in the field of software engineering and goes to Lidia Roszko for her master's thesis on the topic: "Software Requirements Analysis and Architecture Reflection for Designing a Software Platform for Adaptive and Mobile Information Provision". The thesis is dedicated to the growing demand for adaptive and mobile information provision systems (AMIP). Ms. Roszko's work aims to develop a freely available reference architecture that simplifies the AMIP development process.
tracetronic GmbH also awarded two prizes: the tracetronic prize of 1000 euros was awarded in recognition of Hannes Tröpgen 's outstanding final thesis in the field of testing and software development on the subject of "Energy efficiency of different Linux kernels: a methodology for comparing versions".In his thesis, Hannes Tröpgen examines the effects of individual changes in the Linux operating system kernels on energy consumption. He develops a general methodology that can efficiently limit the effects of energy efficiency to specific changes in the source code.
The Tracetronic Prize, endowed with 500 euros, goes to Frieda Barbara Maria Hentschel for the best bachelor's degree in Media Computer Science. The topic of her Bachelor's thesis is "Multi-View-Rendering for Holographic Displays".
Florian Maurus Müller achieved the best Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and was also awarded 500 euros by Kontron AIS GmbH for his Bachelor's thesis: "Synthesis of compact MDP-schedulers in PRISM".
We congratulate all award winners and wish them continued success!
