TU Dresden to Host the International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks 2026
From September 16 to 18, 2026, the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Dresden will host the international conference “Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks” (EWSN). Held annually for the past 23 years, the conference is one of the most highly selective scientific forums for presenting the latest research findings in the field of networked embedded systems. Researchers from around the world who specialize in wireless sensor networks, the Internet of Things, and cyber-physical systems are expected to attend.
The conference is organized by the Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems. The focus is on scientific presentations on technologies that play a central role in digital transformation.
“Networked embedded systems are a crucial foundation for numerous developments in business and society. They support sustainable energy supply, improve medical applications, and make industrial processes more efficient,” emphasizes Prof. Matthias Wählisch, head of the organizing committee. “The EWSN offers an excellent platform for presenting new research findings, strengthening international collaborations, and jointly discussing the next steps in development.”
Wireless sensor networks are used today in numerous fields, such as in the analysis of climate change and in industrial production for more precise monitoring of equipment and production processes. Mobile and wearable sensors can record vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, or movement patterns, thereby making an important contribution to supporting medical diagnoses and, in particular, to the care of older adults or people with chronic conditions.
The Internet of Things connects physical objects with digital services and networks. In smart homes, connected devices can automatically regulate heating and air conditioning, analyze energy consumption, or perform security functions. In cities, intelligent systems enable, among other things, demand-based traffic control, optimized street lighting, and more efficient waste management.
The research team led by Prof. Wählisch focuses on the design of distributed and networked systems and aims to make the Internet, its services, and applications open, scalable, secure, and accessible to all. The research results are reflected in open-source projects, extensive public outreach, and the organization of research-related events. Through open-source software and freely accessible scientific findings, the Chair helps make knowledge and technological developments available to a broad public. EWSN 2026 builds on this commitment and creates a platform for international exchange on current research questions and future applications.
