Titel: "Interactive Visual Explanations for Computational Models"
Abstract:
The explainability of logic-based and artificial intelligence models is of utmost importance for humans to interact meaningfully with modern cyber-physical systems. However, such models can contain and generate large amounts of complex data that make it difficult to create explanations, even for expert users. In response, the field of interactive visualization provides intricate techniques that, especially when used in combination, can be of great help for both experts and new users. These include divide-and-conquer approaches for data exploration and analysis, as well as narrative visualization in single- or multi-device environments to facilitate understanding and attract wider audiences. In my status talk, I will discuss my research on these topics. On the one hand, I will demonstrate concrete visual tools, whose design, development, and evaluation I have led, for domains like probabilistic model checking and description logics. On the other hand, I will discuss surveys I conducted on immersive data-driven storytelling and hybrid user interfaces, that have highlighted the importance of integrating game design and adequately distributing information and interaction. Finally, I will reflect on the open challenges of this broad research landscape that I have contributed to.
