General Information on the Credit Transfer Process for Changing Universities, Faculties, or Degree Programs at TU Dresden
- The credit transfer process cannot begin until you are enrolled in your chosen degree program. Submitting a certificate of admission is not sufficient to file an application.
The application will be rejected without being processed. - As soon as you have applied for enrollment in a higher academic semester and have been admitted, the Admissions Office will request a certificate for the academic semesters that have been credited.
Note: The academic semester certificate can only be issued after the credit transfer process has been completed. Only upon confirmation of the recognized modules and the corresponding number of credits to be earned is it possible, if applicable, to have academic semesters recognized or to be placed into a higher academic semester.
As a general rule: Apply and enroll in the 1st academic semester. - Before filling out the individual credit transfer applications, please read the guide to the credit transfer process to ensure you understand the procedure.
Credit Transfer Procedure for Academic and Examination Achievements (Change of University)
- You must submit the application for credit transfer of coursework and examination results exclusively in printed form, fully completed, and signed by hand, either by mail or in person at the Computer Science Examination Office.
Applications submitted via the ticket system will not be processed. - Once the department representatives have signed the application, please submit Appendix 1—Application for Credit Transfer of Academic and Examination Achievements —via the ticket system to the “Credit Transfers” queue. Attachment 1 must be accompanied by module descriptions and a certified transcript of records.
If you are transferring from a foreign university to TU Dresden, the module descriptions must be in German or English; otherwise, they must be submitted with a subject-specific translation, and the certified Transcript of Records must be in German or English, or a certified translation must be included along with the original documents.
Note: The attachments will not be processed until the signed application is received in hard copy at the Examination Office for Computer Science.
Please note: Please ensure that Attachment 1 and the documents you submit are complete to avoid unnecessary delays in the processing. - Certification of credited academic semesters can only be confirmed after the credit transfer application has been processed
- You will be notified in writing of the Examination Committee’s decision regarding your credit transfer application.
General Information on the ERASMUS Credit Transfer Procedure and the Recognition of Credits Earned Abroad
- The credit transfer process can only take place after you have completed your ERASMUS stay or after you have enrolled in the respective degree program.
- Before filling out the individual credit transfer applications, please read the guide to the credit transfer process to ensure you understand the procedure.
- Credits earned abroad can be reviewed for recognition as equivalent to modules offered in the degree program (subject-specific credit recognition) or—if no equivalent modules exist—as structural credit recognition. Structural credit transfer can only be considered once the above options have been exhausted.
- Subject-Specific Credit Transfers
Academic credits earned abroad are recognized according to our module structure. This means that if you wish to transfer a 6 LP course into a local 5 LP module, only 5 LP will be recognized.
Structural Credit Transfer
The actual ECTS credits earned and the original course title (in English) as listed on your Transcript of Records will be transferred. - In accordance with our examination regulations, grades are only transferred if the grading systems are comparable. If the grading systems are not comparable, only the notation “passed” is recorded. Therefore, there is no legal entitlement to a grade conversion upon your return.
