Team

We are a team of passionate people who advance distributed and networked systems. We are diverse, not only because we provide an unusual broad range of expertise but also because each of us is unique. We are used to successfully collaborate with academia and industry, and welcome members at all levels of their career. We provide answers to challenges that matter but we also ask tough questions.

Research

Our research topics include current, emerging, and future technologies and architectures. We currently work on many topics such as Internet measurements, data analytics, QUIC, Internet of Things, embedded systems, Denial of Service, cloud computing, DNS(SEC), Web services.

Awards

We are humbled but also proud of what we have achieved. Our research results have been awarded multiple times on top-tier venues. Among others, members of our team received the Best Paper Award and Best Community Award at ACM CoNEXT 2022, awarded by two independent committees. We won the International IPv6 Application Contest 2009, and received the Best of ACM SIGCOMM CCR 2018 and 2019.

Art

We know that cutting-edge research needs a clear mind. Art can contribute to this and serve as a source of inspiration. In our rooms, we exhibit art, either original art or reproductions, ranging from paintings, drawings and etchings to photos. The various artworks are directly or more abstractly related to what we do, but we definitely do not see the pieces as purely decorative.

Cutting-edge Research with Practical Impact

At the Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems, research and teaching focus on scalable, reliable, and secure communication in wired and wireless networks. We work on the design and evaluation of networking algorithms, protocols, and architectures as well as Internet measurements and analysis. We use simulations, analytical evaluations, and real-world experiments to gain a comprehensive view of the problem and solution space. Our efforts are driven by the goal to improve distributed, networked systems based on sound research. Some of our research results escaped from our lab and are now used in practice.

Core team members have been with the Chair of Computer Networks at TU Dresden (Prof. Schill) and the Internet Technologies Lab at Freie Universität Berlin (Prof. Wählisch) before joining the Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems.
