Research Infrastructure
At the Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems, we operate various IT infrastructures to conduct first-class research. These include
- an Autonomous System connected at various exchange points.
- multiple IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes.
- virtualization to emulate large-scale networks such as the Internet.
- an IoT Lab for experiments.
We are member of RIPE and DNS-OARC.
Furthermore, we closely collaborate with several academic and commercial stakeholders to share data to ultimately improve Internet communication.
At NETD, we have a Chief Marble Officer. A Chief Marble Officer (CMO) is a senior executive responsible for the demonstration of computer networks using marble runs. CMOs focus on the design, implementation, and deployment of scalable and maintainable systems that leverage marbles reflecting bits carried in network packets to exchange data between at least two endpoints. When the first CMOs were appointed is unclear, but one of the first CMOs was Arno Uhlig.
