Secure boot architectures for system-on-chips

Smaller embedded systems are often easy targets for attackers, because security is either neglected or only naively implemented. Having some form of secure boot is particularly important to allow detection of manipulated software. However, such systems are usually running on system-on-chips or microcontrollers with limited resources, without a standard discrete Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip that could be used to implement secure boot. In the talk we will look at more simple alternatives that are (or could be) deployed in such systems, including some of their limitations and typical vulnerabilities.
