Firmware is fundamental to boot a computer. However, most firmware written today is closed source. This raises numerous concerns about implemenation errors, security issues and questions of ownership.
coreboot is an open source replacement for such proprietary BIOS / UEFI that is supposed to solve these problems. It is designed to provide a fast and secure boot experience while keeping a minimal code base. We will take a look at its basic architectural concepts and see what a boot process looks like.
