Introduction to Genome Sequencing and the Coding Exon Structure Aware Realigner (CESAR)

Let's leave the operating systems aside for a moment. This talk will give an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of bioinformatics, focusing on genome sequencing. After brushing up your biology knowledge on DNA, we will take a look at the informatic side with the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and the Viterbi algorithm. Afterwards I will present this theory in practice using the sequence alignment tool CESAR and the improvements I made during my internship at the Max Planck Institute in Dresden.
