Jeannine Born wins Telekom STEM award!
After a lot of hard work, a rigorous application process, and a very strong international competition, our Jeannine Born won the national Deutsche Telekom female STEM award in the Cyber security category!
The female STEM award this year took place at the Deutsche Telekom HQ in Bonn, and received 160 applications from all over the world. Only six of whom (including Jeannine) were successfully selected by the Jury for the award, and Jeannine's work was the only B.Sc. thesis which got awarded. The five remaining winners were all at the Master's level. The Jury consisted of top minds in the field such as Thomas Tschersich, the Chief Security Officer at Deutsche Telekom who personally congratulated her and handed her the award.
Jeannine's work was innovative and focused on rethinking security honeypots through the implementation and evaluation of highly-interactive deception networks. In the process, she studied the performance, security and perceived deception of three service migration strategies which could be used to confine an adversary into its own closely-monitored sandbox network. This was done "live" while the attacks are ongoing in a way that does not interfere or cause damage to the running production systems, and without causing anomalies that could alert an intelligent adversary about the presence of such a countermeasure.
Our Amr supervised Jeannine's Bachelor thesis, which was recently concluded, defended and given an excellent grade by the examination committee. At the moment, Jeannine got employed at the chair as a student research assistant.
We are of course very proud and wish Jeannine all the best for her future endeavors!
