Cooperation with India: Visits to IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee and IIT Delhi strengthen collaboration
At the end of November, a high-ranking delegation from TU Dresden, led by TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger and accompanied by Saxony's Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow, travelled to IIT Madras in India with strong participation from the School ING. The topics of microelectronics (Prof Karlheinz Bock and Prof Thomas Mikolajick), computer science (Prof Akash Kumar) and the heritage network (Prof Ercan Altinsoy) were prominently represented for the School ING.
Following the appointments at IIT Madras, Prof. Ercan Altinsoy, in his function as Internationalisation Officer of the School ING, and Maike Heitkamp-Mai, International Affairs Officer, visited IIT Roorkee in northern India at the invitation of Dean International Prof. Vimal Srivastava. IIT Roorkee will be the venue for the General Assembly of the Heritage Network in 2024, and TU Dresden will be closely involved in its organisation. The visit served to jointly plan the event and also provided an opportunity to plan further activities such as student exchanges, joint doctoral supervision and research projects. The first concrete result is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIT Roorkee and TUD.
The trip to India concluded with participation in a winter school at IIT Delhi, which was organised as part of the DAAD-funded COMPOLL project under the leadership of the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology at TU Dresden, Prof. Maik Gude, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, Prof. Ashish Darpe. Ten TUD students took part in the winter school. On the fringes of the event, laboratory tours and discussions took place to plan further joint projects.
