Dr.-Ing. Andreas Jäger

On 3 March 2022, Andreas Jäger is appointed Chairman of Thermal Power Machinery and Plants. His field of work focuses on the integration of thermal power machinery and plants into advanced processes and systems of thermal power engineering. Furthermore, he is engaged in the modelling of mixtures and the application of these models to the optimisation of processes in power engineering. In addition to energy systems and turbomachinery, also plant engineering is being addressed. This focus is reflected in the content of offered courses and research projects.

Studies

Based on the understanding of thermodynamical, fluid mechanical and structure mechanical basics, our courses are meant to enable students to conceive and design turbomachinery, apparatuses and pipework and evaluate their operating behaviour. The gas turbine test facility at the Centre for Energy Technology is incorporated in the teaching and supports an application-oriented knowledge imparting. Through a close partnership with industry and other research institutions, there are interesting offers for project assignments and "Diplom" theses, internships, and excursions.

Research

The research focuses on the system integration of turbomachinery into processes of thermal energy technology. In this context, advanced thermal energy conversion processes have a special significance, also in connection with renewable energies. In this area, we are especially concerned with new innovative working fluids and working fluid mixtures. The chair has made its mark in the field of thermomechanics, addressing aspects of system integration of turbomachinery. This applies to realistic testing and simulation methods. We have a powerful experimental infrastructure comprising unique testing facilities.

Like hardly any other area of the industry, the energy industry attracts public attention, and there are heated societal debates around energy topics.
Energy is also a hot topic for the research group of Thermal Power Machinery and Plants, however, from an engineering point of view.
Processes and plants of high-temperature energy technology determine the profile of Thermal Power Machinery and Plants (TEA) at the Institute of Power Engineering.
Since 2006, we are a member of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) "Lightweight Structures and Materials", affiliated with TU Dresden.
