Successful participation at MSE 2026 in Darmstadt
A strong presence of the Chair of Laser-Based Manufacturing at TU Dresden was demonstrated at MSE 2026 – Materials Science and Engineering, held in Darmstadt. A total of 20 scientific contributions involving members of the chair were presented, highlighting the broad range of current research activities in laser-based materials processing and functional surface engineering.
Recent developments in Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP), laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS), laser welding, laser processing of composite materials, and functional surface engineering were presented. Particular attention was given to the increasing integration of machine learning, neural networks, genetic algorithms, process monitoring and autonomous optimization into advanced laser manufacturing processes.
Furthermore, laser-structured surfaces for applications including hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, wettability control, hydrophobic surfaces and directional fluid transport were presented and discussed with the international materials science community.
