The Chair for Laser based Surface Structuring
The chair LMO was created after a challenging selection procedure at the Technische Universität Dresden as one of nine Open Topic Tenure Track (OTTP) chairs, which were established within the German excellence initiative. Our scientific team comprises off senior scientists and Ph.D. students. Furthermore, several students perform their thesis at our chair and also support our scientist as undergraduate assistances.
In winter semester, students are welcomed to the lecture “Laser precision manufacturing”. The research seminar “Production technology” is given during the summer semester. In addition, we offer topics for bachelor, diploma and master theses, which can be conducted either the TU Dresden or the Fraunhofer IWS Dresden. Once a year, students and Ph.D. students meet in Dresden for the International Summer School “Trends and new developments in laser technology” to present and discuss their latest results.
In our research, we address the fast growing topic of surface functionalization. In this context, we focus on understanding the relation between surface morphology and properties. Furthermore, technological surfaces are treated with laser method to produce complex surface topographies and thus creating new functions. The same objective is aimed using roll to roll embossing methods.
