Lionel Shreir Award 2026 for a female researcher at TU Dresden
Lis Geraldine Zschach, a research assistant at the Chair of Laser-Based Manufacturing at Dresden University of Technology, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Lionel Shreir Award by the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr). The award was presented at the 67th Corrosion Science Symposium, which took place as part of the international conference EUROCORR 2026 in Dublin, Ireland.
The Lionel Shreir Award is presented annually for the best scientific presentation amongst the student papers at the Corrosion Science Symposium. The assessment criteria include, in particular, the originality and scientific significance of the research, sound specialist knowledge, and the quality of the presentation and the subsequent discussion amongst experts.
Lis Zschach received the award for her presentation entitled ‘Influence of Wettability on the Salt-Spray Corrosion Behaviour of Laser-Structured Aluminium’. Her research investigates the relationships between laser-induced surface modification, wettability and the corrosion behaviour of aluminium, and contributes to a better understanding of laser-based surface treatments for corrosion protection.
The award is named after the corrosion scientist Lionel Louis Shreir (1914–1992), who had a significant influence on the field of corrosion science through his research and his commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists.
