TEACHING AT THE STRUCTURAL DURABILITY GROUP
At the Structural Durability Group student education training has a particularly high priority. In addition to the predominantly theoretical subjects of the basic course, the main course puts special emphasis on practicality and application knowledge. The combination of experimental simulation at the research group and numerical simulation methods at the Chairs of the Institute of Solid Mechanics allow for an outstanding interdisciplinary training, which particularly plays a role in the study course "Simulation Methods in Mechanical Engineering" of the study course "Mechanical Engineering".
Lectures and seminars of the Structural Durability Group
The Structural Durability Group is part of the Institute of Solid Mechanics. It is responsible for basic education in the study course "Technical Mechanics 1-3 for Industrial Engineers".
In the main study course (Hauptstudium), the focus is on subjects of the programme "Mechanical Engineering". The specialisation course "Simulation Methods of Mechanical Engineering" is of particular interest and it is taught in the subjects of "Experimental Solid Mechanics" and "Fatigue Strength and Structural Durability". A characteristic feature is that the objectives of these courses are not only targeted at developing a sound technical knowledge but also at giving insight into practical problems. Thus, graduates should not only be deployable as critical mechanical design engineer but also as test engineers.
For construction-related study courses, the research group offers lectures and seminars in the field of structural durability, imparting the legal background of various directives on dynamic fatigue strength, striving to explain often confusing and seemingly illogical formulas.
