Research areas

  • Characterization of fuels, in particular biomasses as well as residual and waste materials, in connection with energy use in pyrolysis, gasification and combustion processes
  • Experimental investigation of the thermochemical conversion behavior of feedstocks using laboratory and pilot plants (reaction kinetics, burnout, emissions, fouling and slagging tendency)
  • Accompanying studies on slagging behavior due to fluctuating fuel quality (in a coal-fired power plant)
  • Laboratory investigations of sewage sludge co-combustion in a coal-fired power plant
