Review: Kick-off meeting of the BiKoAb project on March 11, 2026
Around two and a half months after the start of the project, those involved in the research project "Technical-scientific comparison of available methods for determining biogenic carbon dioxide emissions from waste incineration for cost optimization (BiKoAb)" came together for their first joint meeting. The event took place in Seminar Building 2 at TU Dresden and was attended by a total of 20 participants - 15 on site and 5 online.
The aim of the BiKoAbproject is to develop a sound decision-making basis for the plant-specific selection of suitable methods for determining biogenic CO₂ emissions and thus contribute to the long-term optimization of emissions assessment in thermal waste recycling.
The meeting focused on the current project status and the exchange of expectations, requirements and perspectives. At the beginning, the participating research centers introduced themselves: the Chair of Energy Process Engineering at TUD Dresden University of Technology and the Clausthal Environmental Technology Research Center (CUTEC) at Clausthal University of Technology. The planned work packages and the overarching project objectives were then presented.
EVT then provided initial insights into methodological approaches for determining biogenic CO₂ emissions. In addition, CUTEC explained the practical framework conditions and challenges of implementation under real plant conditions.
A central component of the meeting was the subsequent intensive discussion among the participants. Numerous technical questions and ideas were put forward, which will be taken into account in the further course of the project. Among other things, the exact definition and delimitation of the term "biogenic CO₂", the increasing importance of recycled carbon and the evaluation of various methods with regard to technical, economic and political framework conditions were discussed.
The kick-off meeting provided valuable impetus for further work on the project and strengthened the professional exchange between the project partners.
