Students will be enabled to use numerical simulations in power engineering for basic research, development up to design. Modeling and discretization approaches range from spatially zero-dimensional stirred tank reactors to three-dimensional unsteady CFD simulations. To ensure the reliability of the numerical models, knowledge of the need and ability of students to carefully validate with numerical and experimental data are essential. Modeling at different levels of complexity is presented and provides knowledge of the effort required and the accuracy expected for each. Theoretical instruction is linked to basic real-world examples.
