The most modern training nuclear reactor in Germany
The AKR-2 training nuclear reactor is an integral part of the Chair of Hydrogen and The AKR-2 training nuclear reactor is an integral part of the Chair of Hydrogen and Nuclear Energy Technology at TU Dresden and is firmly integrated into teaching and research at the university. The training, research and knowledge transfer at this facility contributes significantly to maintaining expertise in the field of nuclear reactor technology and nuclear energy technology - both in cooperation with other colleges and universities as well as with industry - in Germany. As zero-power reactors, training nuclear reactors such as the AKR-2 are ideally suited to demonstrating complex reactor and nuclear physics interrelationships in a complex manner, and to making them tangible on a laboratory scale in experiments and also to presenting them clearly to non-specialists. In this way, they complement theoretical teaching and make an important contribution to maintaining and improving know-how and expertise in nuclear technology through the training of nuclear technology specialists.
Basic experiments in reactor and nuclear physics are carried out for students of nuclear energy technology, physics, physics and mathematics teaching, industrial engineering, medical faculty and in the Studium Generale for all other interested students at the university. As only a few universities and colleges have their own training reactors, students from the region and from all over Germany are welcome to take part in the practical courses.
The AKR-2 is not only a real student attraction at the TU Dresden, but is also attractive for the qualification and further training of employees from the nuclear industry or other specialist institutions in the field of reactor physics, reactor control technology and radiation and neutron flux measurement technology, not least because it is equipped with the TELEPERM XS digital control technology system.
