Chair of Biomaterials
Prof. Dr. rer. medic. Hans-Peter Wiesmann holds the professorship for biomaterials since 2009. He is also Chairman of the Working Group for Electron Optics e.V. and board member of the German Surgical Foundation. In 2012 Prof. Wiesmann received the "Prize for Innovation in Teaching" of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering. He was born in 1964 in Hörstel in Westphalia.
Vision:
"In the future, the production of dental implants will be optimized to such an extent that they will become more and more break-proof and cheaper. Ceramics with special functions and sensors will be launched on the market so that loosening dental implants, for example, can be automatically detected. "Smart materials", which not only monitor the body but can also actively intervene in its functions, have been part of the specialist discourse for some time, but are currently still pure dreams of the future".
