The Chair of Material Technology presents itself

With its dedicated team of scientists, doctoral students and technicians the Chair of Material Technology makes important contributions to the areas of teaching and research in the faculty of mechanical engineering. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the problems in modern material technology the complex problems need to be worked on collectively by material scientists, chemists, physicists and mechanical engineers. The wide range of factual expertise is also put to good use for the students in the various courses.

Facilities

The Chair of Material Technology has at its disposal extensively equipped laboratories for amongst other things mechanical material testing, metallography, particle erosion and high temperature oxidation.
Staff

The team of the chair is composed of experienced scientists and doctoral students, who are supported in their research and practical classes by a large number of student helpers. In addition, a number of highly qualified technicians are available to support the challenging research projects.

The intensive research activities of the chair deliver new stimulus for the teaching, in that current research results find a quick entry into the many and various teaching courses. Moreover, the research projects provide the students at various stages of their studies with a view into modern material research. The good connections to national and international research facilities and companies allow the students also to look outside the university box.

Doctoral students use not-infrequently the cooperation with external partners for the planning of their own scientific carrier for the time after their graduation. As a consequence, over time the alumni of the chair form a network in companies and research institutes that are useful for all sides.
