COMPOLL Scholarship for Research Internship at IIT Delhi
Open call 2023 | 2024 for excellent students and PhD students
Given the ever-increasing human population, the impact of human activities on the environment is becoming a critical issue. Noise, air and water pollution as well as waste management have become one of the greatest global challenges facing all of humanity. Addressing these issues requieres extensive cross-national cooperation among societies with their different stages of development, linguistic diversity and cultural backgrounds, as well as local problems and beliefs.
The IIT Delhi and the TU Dresden have been working together for many years in various scientific disciplines such as mechanical engineering, rotordynamics, tribology or computer science in order to ensure resource efficiency of products, processes, sustainable systems and materials. The bilateral educational project "Combating Environmental Pollution through Internationalisation of Education" (COMPOLL) of the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK), TU Dresden and the IIT Delhi, jointly funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Indian University Grants Commission (UGC) in the program "Indo-German Partnerships in Higher Education" (IGP), aims at a strategic cooperation to increase pollution and an international networking with further partners in science and industry. The scientific research behind the project focuses on increasing awareness through waste reduction and recycling, the use of bio-based materials, and a return to design solutions that enable repair and refurbishment. An overarching goal of the DAAD and the UGC within the DIP funding is to create a viable, resilient Indo-German network and an exchange of experience that will enable the exploitation of potential synergies in technical and professional issues. The mobilities and exchange therefore represent one of the most important project activities.
In this context, the DAAD funds at the ILK of TU Dresden will be used to offer the COMPOLL Scholarship for a research stay at IIT Delhi for excellent students and PhD students in 2023 and 2024.
- a financial support: 1.025€ / month for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 months study/research stay at IIT Delhi & one-time mobility allowance of 1.050€ to cover the travel expenses and all additional costs related to the travel
- the possibility to get involved in the COMPOLL project
- the possibility to combine the stay with the participation in the COMPOLL Winter School in New Delhi (planned for November 2023, call for participants to follow)
- a conceptual support: individual and personal supervision for the COMPOLL scholarship holders by our project partner at IIT Delhi; the possibility of an Indian TANDEM partner, who will accompany you through your daily study routine and stay in India
The target group of the Call for COMPOLL Scholarship are excellent advanced students (graduates[1]) and PhD students of study programs/fields of study or with scientific interests which show thematic intersections with the COMPOLL focus topics. In terms of the latter, submissions on the topic of environmental pollution in the broadest sense (especially noise, air and water pollution as well as waste management) are welcome. Regarding the teaching and educational dimension of the project (focus: innovative teaching concepts to increase environmental/pollution awareness), we would like to encourage applications not only from students/PhD students of technical disciplines but also from students in teacher education/ with educational research fields. Applications from first-year and bachelor students cannot be considered.
The research stay at IIT Delhi should be individually designed by the applicant for the purpose of completing a student/research project (e.g. term paper, research internship, thesis, etc.), ideally with the intention of a peer reviewed publication of the results in a recognized journal.
