After more than 30 years, the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden is introducing a new, contemporary logo. The visual identity presented today by the ILK board marks a bridge between the institute’s established identity and its ambition to play a leading role in shaping the future of lightweight engineering nationally and internationally.
“For around 30 years, the previous logo has shaped the ILK’s visual identity and has therefore been closely linked to the institute’s long-standing development. During this time, the ILK has continuously evolved in teaching, research, and transfer, steadily strengthening its position within the national and international lightweight engineering community. The new logo consistently continues this path, combining our historically grown identity with a clear forward-looking perspective. It represents our ambition to continue setting impulses for the next generation of lightweight solutions,” says Prof. Dr. Maik Gude, Director of the ILK.
The redesign is primarily based on the institute’s previous visual mark. Its characteristic, technically inspired, three-dimensional design elements have been adopted, deliberately simplified, and translated into a clear, contemporary visual language. This preserves its high recognizability while at the same time ensuring stronger visual integration into the corporate design of TU Dresden.
The ILK is one of the leading research institutions in the field of modern lightweight engineering and holds a visible and respected position both nationally and internationally. With around 240 employees, the institute conducts research, teaches, and develops solutions across the entire value chain of functional-integrated system lightweight engineering, from materials development to design, simulation, and manufacturing through to prototyping and validation, supported by continuous digitalization.
Guided by the principle “material- and technology-open lightweight engineering – sustainable. resilient. competitive.”, the new logo represents the connection between continuity and renewal. It underlines the ILK’s ambition to continue actively shaping the development of lightweight engineering in the future.
