Sitzung der AG „Sustainability“ – Basisworkshop LCA
01307 Dresden
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has long been an essential tool for evaluating the environmental impacts of products and processes. However, in the field of lightweight design—a key area of modern industry and product development dominated by materials such as carbon fiber composites, aluminum, and hybrid materials—unique challenges arise. How can we accurately represent complex material combinations, long life cycles, and uncertain recycling pathways in an LCA?
The workshop organized by the AG „Sustainability“ working group begins with a concise introduction to the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment. Following this, participants will work on practical use cases from the field of modern lightweight materials and products. The focus will be on systematically and methodically addressing the four phases of an LCA: goal and scope definition, inventory analysis, impact assessment, and interpretation. Using open-access software and established databases, participants will learn how to quantify the environmental impacts of the case studies and critically analyze the results. Through a combination of short lectures, group work, and interactive discussions, participants will not only gain in-depth knowledge but also valuable hands-on experience. At the end of the workshop, the group work results will be presented and discussed with the entire workshop team.
The workshop will take place on June 17, 2026, the day before the 29th International Dresden Lightweight Engineering Symposium (June 18–19, 2026), making it the perfect complement to the main program. Don’t miss this opportunity to benefit from an interdisciplinary setting where theory and practice go hand in hand.
