Increased efficiency through digital product development

In the project "Digitally synchronized development architecture for the product development process - PEP4.0", the Institute for Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) of the TU Dresden, together with the project partner Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd. & Co.KG and CTC GmbH, is researching methods and procedures for improving design development processes for complex lightweight structures using the example of an intermediate engine housing.
The aim of the project is to apply new technologies for the implementation of hybrid metal-fiber composite designs and to achieve a significant increase in efficiency in terms of shorter development time and lower risk.
The basis for this will be a digitally linked product development process (PEP4.0), which combines the methods, models and data (MMD) of the individual disciplines of construction, design and production into a networked development structure with defined interfaces and continuous data processing and analysis.

A comprehensively networked development structure offers the advantage of immediately available data necessary for development. These data correspond to virtual and real conditions. Interacting key parameters along the entire product development chain and their effects on product properties become visible.
The project is funded under the fifth aeronautics research program (LuFo) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy BMWi.
