Student intern designs functional Ironbird
As an 11th grade student at Luisenstift-Gymnasium Dresden (Radebeul), Anton Schier completed a two-week voluntary internship at the Chair of Flight Mechanics and Control (FMR, Dresden University of Technology). He gained insights into the UAV sector with regard to drone construction and commissioning. With this knowledge, Anton was able to design the Chair's first IronBird(IronBird-AS0225) and put it into operation.
In the aircraft development process, an Ironbird is a non-airworthy mockup model with original hardware components for testing and verification purposes. The IronBird-AS0225 is equipped with actuators for all control elements of a UAV and has a GPS receiver and a Pixhawk 6C as a computer unit for the flight controller. Radio control is also possible. In the future, it will be used for software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation at the Chair to investigate newly developed flight control algorithms and autopilots.
