Construction Future Lab founded
As a consistent continuation of long-standing research activities in the fields of construction machinery, drive technology and construction management, above all the joint research project Bauen 4.0, the Construction Future Lab was founded on May 6, 2022. The TU Dresden is the sole shareholder of the non-profit GmbH, which has set itself the goal of closing the technology gap between university research and market application in the construction industry. This is achieved above all by bundling the competencies of the founding members of this institution:
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Weber – director of the Institute of Mechatronic Engineering and holder of the Chair of Fluid-Mechatronic Systems – is the managing director of the CFLab. Together with his employees, he contributes expertise in the field of drive technology for future construction machinery as well as competencies in the areas of connectivity, automation and functional safety.
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Will (holder of the Chair of Construction Machinery) provides know-how in the field of automated construction machinery, construction robotics and innovative machine technology as a further managing director of the CFLab. This involves both increasing the efficiency and performance of conventional construction machinery and automating physically demanding and repetitive tasks with the aim of relieving the workers.
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Otto (director of the Institute of Construction Management) is also managing director and, together with his staff, focuses primarily on the transfer of digital planning to the control of construction machinery and the use of data obtained during construction for core processes in construction management and planning. The aim is to establish new services in construction, but above all to increase the efficiency of construction processes, with a focus on practicability and practicality.
- The initiators are also significantly supported and accompanied by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Krzywinski (holder of the Chair of Technical Design), who contributes with his team in the field of sustainable human-centered development, as well as the design of human-machine interfaces for product-service-systems.
- In addition, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil Martin Wollschläger (holder of the Chair of Industrial Communications) contributes with know-how in the field of process communication.
The "Construction Future Lab - CFLab" is an independent research and development facility that focuses on the core fields of digitalized construction. It cooperates closely with the TU Dresden and other local research institutions, as well as industry, start-ups, politics, associations and other construction-related sectors. It conducts application-oriented research and development and supports technology transfer through to market-oriented implementation. As an innovation center for Bauen 4.0, the CFLab is the point of contact for local and global industry. We act as a research link and interface between university research and industry or governmental and societal stakeholders.
At its core is an extensive testing and development platform as an infrastructure offering, which conducts research on construction-specific technologies both locally at a laboratory construction site and nationally with the help of mobile laboratory units, and develops them further. Lusatia and especially the location in Görlitz offer excellent conditions for this. The aim is to shape structural change with the help of forward-looking and relevant activities.
Further information and updates will follow in the next months via the communication channels of the CFLab:
