Project approval WorkspaceXL
Many construction machines, such as truck-mounted concrete pumps, material handlers, tower cranes and mobile cranes, have long boom structures with reaches of up to 100 meters. They often work in safety-critical situations: restricted visibility, dynamic obstacles and narrow ranges of motion increase the demands on operation. Precise, robust and real-time capable workspace monitoring is therefore essential to ensure safety and efficiency. To date, there are no market-ready solutions that can monitor the entire workspace using sensors, safely and at the same time without shadowing, and enable reliable collision avoidance.
In the research project "WorkspaceXL" - a project in the ZIM network "AutoRobXL" - the project partners MOBA Mobile Automation AG, Weiss Mobiltechnik GmbH and the Chair of Construction Machinery at TU Dresden are jointly developing a new type of system for complete and shadow-free detection and monitoring of the workspace of large boom structures. The system is an important building block for future assistance systems and automation solutions in the construction machinery sector.
