Two-day excursion to Freudenberg Sealing Technologies and Bosch Rexroth
When theory meets practice, unforgettable learning experiences emerge. As part of the courses "Fluid Power Components and Systems" and "Fluid-Mechatronics in Industrial Applications," our students gained exclusive insights into the world of two industry giants.
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies: Where 5 billion seals are born
The first stop took our students to Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in Schwalmstadt - one of the world's most significant seal manufacturers with an impressive output of over 5 billion seals per year. Here they could witness firsthand how raw materials become high-tech products: From raw material production, where polyurethane is prepared as starting material for global seal manufacturing, through modern injection molding processes to specialized machining procedures for soft sealing materials – students followed the complete production process. Particularly fascinating: How innovative turning processes enable cost-effective realization of prototypes and small series without dedicated injection molding tools.
Bosch Rexroth: Hydraulic innovation in perfection
The second day brought our students to Bosch Rexroth in Lohr am Main - one of the world's largest hydraulic manufacturers and full-range suppliers for customized system solutions. At this traditional site, which today houses foundry, valve production, and various research facilities, they experienced engineering excellence at its finest: The tour included servo valve manufacturing, insights into experimental and numerical fluid mechanics, acoustic research, and modern validation processes. Particularly exciting: The development and validation of innovative system solutions such as electrohydraulic actuators (EHA) and compact units - including the associated software development.
More than just plant tours
These excursions are far more than traditional company visits. They show our students concretely where their future could lie and how the knowledge they've acquired is applied in practice. Direct conversations with experts, experiencing state-of-the-art production technologies, and insights into research and development create inspiration for their own careers.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Freudenberg Sealing Technologies and Bosch Rexroth, especially to Mr. Gonzalo Barillas and Mr. Georg Schoppel, for enabling and professionally conducting these valuable plant visits.
