Fluid 4.0 joint research project launched
The Fluid 4.0 consortium at the kick-off on 07.02.2024 at the VDMA in Frankfurt a.M.
Fluid 4.0 brings together fluid technology manufacturers, machine and system builders, users and service providers for the first time to develop digital twins in the form of asset administration shells for system management in four industry-relevant use cases and to prove their benefits using demonstrators.
Building on the existing infrastructure for the digitalization of fluid technology components (“asset administration shells”, ECLASS models, OPC UA Companion Specifications) and the data spaces known from other industries (Catena-X), concrete demonstrators for establishing the asset administration shell for systems are being developed in this project.
This orchestrating, higher-level instance represents the core for implementing the four industry-relevant use cases:
- control development of machines
- energy monitoring of fluid technology systems
- cross-industry CO2 assessment
- circular economy
Information is exchanged via a data room based on proven Industry 4.0 approaches, which is legally secure, trustworthy and role-based, in order to improve product life-cycle management (PLM) as a whole.

The first milestone meeting will take place on June 21, 2024 at the VDMA in Frankfurt.
The sub-project of TU Dresden in the Fluid 4.0 joint research project is funded by the European Union (NextGenerationEU) under the funding code 13IK039L and supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag.
