Innovative process valves using polymer bonded magnetic composites
Research Task/Objectives
Manufacturing conventional magnetic valve actuators is very complex due to the use of
many different manufacturing processes. Especially for process valves that are working
within a low pressure range, an injection moulding process using polymer bonded
magnetic composites is a promising alternative. This reduces the production effort significantly.
The research’s objective is the development of innovative highly integrated injection moulded process valves, which allow an easy assembling and reassembling of the system. Their designs are tuned for the degree of freedoms and limitations of the injection moulding process.
Approach
Within the project, a continuously adjustable proportional valve and a pulse-actuated
switching valve in the application of process technology using injection moulding are realized.
Together with the project partners, innovative valve concepts with a high integration of fluid stage and magnetic actuator are prepared. This also includes the development of polymer bonded magnetic composites, which have to meet the requirements of the application of fluid power. The focus of the Institute of Fluid Power is the systematic development of the magnetic actuators by using magnetic system and FEM simulations.

Overview of the project scope
The presented research activities are part of the project "Development of innovative process valves using polymer bonded magnetic composites on process technology" (Ref. No. KF2452607BZ4), which was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy within the ZIM programme. The project is realised in cooperation with PSK Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH and Thüringisches Institut für Textil- und Kunststoff-Forschung e. V.
