Safety of independent metering systems for mobile applications
Research Task/Objective

Approach in the project
Modern electrohydraulic independent metering drive systems offer a high potential in order to increase functionality and efficiency in mobile applications. Structures of independent metering systems should be highly costeffective and meet the safety requirements making this technology more accessible to the market. It is therefore the objective, to develop and test safety relevant structures of independent metering systems, which fit to a wide range of mobile applications.
Solution/Results

Test of safety function „Stop“ with PL=d structure
By applying systematic developing processes, a solution space of six supply units, 28 valve systems and 20 measurement systems was generated. Using an objective evaluation process application-specific solution can be filtered out. Thereby, an assessment of safety and reliability aspects regarding several independent metering structures is firstly possible. Applying this methodology a complete drive structure was identified for the sample application compact excavator, which was subsequently analyzed by simulation and built up on the excavator test rig. Measurements show the functionality of the safety function in case of an error by using the functional necessary sensors.
The presented research activities are part of the project "Safety concepts for independent metering drive systems in mobile applications" (Ref. No. FKM 702910). The authors would like to thank the Fluid Power Research Fund of the VDMA for the funding and support.
