Ferrofluids & Magnetic Hybrid Materials
Magnetic hybrid materials are composites of a non-magnetic, liquid or elastomeric matrix and magnetic nano- or microparticles embedded therein. By applying magnetic fields, forces can be exerted on these fluids and their properties can be significantly influenced. Our research interest is focused on changes in the rheological properties of such materials and their correlation with changes in the microstructure to which the magnetic particles are arranged. In addition, we are concerned with flow phenomena, especially with respect to biomedical applications of magnetic fluids.
