As long as German machinery, plant, and vehicle manufacturers resist all adversities and changes with their high-quality products and still have a leading role in export, machine elements, which are taught - not only at the Technische Universität Dresden - in an appropriate scale, are required. In contrast to many other universities and technical colleges in Germany, we still train our young academics in Dresden, with a bit of pride and great joy, to the worldwide unique and recognized Dipl.-Ing. because unique characteristics never were negative.

Without machine components no machine, no plant and also no vehicle would exist. The machine elements, which are closely linked to the transmission technology, keep our society, which is starving for mobility, running. Engineers with appropriate knowledge in these special fields are universal in every branch of industry.
Recalling this obligation, we make our significant contribution within the faculty of mechanical engineering with the course “Machine Elements” to the basic education of engineers from the most diverse disciplines. In this basic education general knowledge of the characteristics, calculation, and design of machine elements is imparted. These include the familiarization of basic calculation and design principles, the intermediation of experiences with the usage of single machine elements and the introduction to the usage of calculation standards.
In the main study period, the courses “Drive Systems” and the “Drive Technology” are offered, which build upon the basic education. The knowledge gained there can be deepened in the subjects “Analysis and Dimensioning”, “Modeling and Simulation of mechanical-electric Drive Systems” and “Tribology”. In addition, we offer the lecture “Drive Systems in Wind Turbines” for the course of study “Regenerative Energy Systems”. In particular, we serve the knowledge transfer with internships, study-thesis and diploma-thesis besides the lectures and exercises in the subjects mentioned above. In addition to the thesis paper topics inspired by practical situations, there are numerous topics, which are derived from actual research projects. Every year approximately 20 diploma-students and trainees, which are supervised by Chair of Machine Elements provide evidence to work on and solve drive technology problem.
