Research at the chair of bioprocess engineering

The research focus our group is on bioprocess technology, metabolic engineering and synthetic biotechnology, plant and algal biotechnology, enzyme technology and the development of smart automated laboratory applications. Here, the use of sustainable carbon sources (CO2 and its derivatives, lignocellulose, industrial waste streams) for various microbial and enzymatic value syntheses is the focus of our interest.

Synthet­ische Biologie und Systembio­logie

Klassisches metabolic engineering besteht im gezielten Ausschalten und Verstärken einzelner Reaktionen in Stoffwechselnetzwerken von Produktionsstämmen zur Optimierung der Biosynthese eines Zielmoleküls. Obwohl mit Hilfe dieser Technologie beachtliche Erfolge erzielt werden können, beschränkt sich die Palette von so darstellbaren Molekülen auf natürliche Stoffwechselprodukte.

Bioprozesse

Ein Kernbereich der Professur für Bioverfahrenstechnik ist die Untersuchung und Veränderung von biologischen Organismen und deren Stoffwechselprodukte. Die Prozessentwicklung zur Herstellung von höherwertigen Produkten durch Organismen.

Prozesse steuern und überwachen

Der Bereich der Prozesssteuerung und Prozessüberwachung beschäftigt sich mit der Automation und Manipulation von biologischen Proben, sowie mit der Sensorentwicklung und Sensorimplementierung.
