Chair of Bioprocess Engineering
Bioprocess engineering, bioengineering and industrial biotechnology are synonyms for the scientific discipline that deals with the technical implementation of biological substance transformations. Bioprocess engineering is located at the interface between biology and engineering sciences and transfers results of basic biological and biochemical research into industrially usable processes.

What does the group do?
The Chair's core research areas are in the fields of bioprocess technology, metabolic engineering and synthetic biotechnology, plant and algae biotechnology, enzyme technology and the development of smart automated laboratory applications. Our focus is on the use of sustainable carbon sources (CO2 and its derivatives, lignocellulose, industrial waste streams) for various microbial and enzymatic syntheses of valuable substances.
