On March 27, the internationally renowned Fouling and Cleaning in Food Processing Conference 2025 came to an end after three eventful days. For the first time since its first edition in Lund (Sweden) in 1981 it took place in Dresden. The conference was organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV with the strong support of the colleagues from the Chair of Processing Machines/ Processing Technology at TU Dresden.
The opening speeches by Dr. Marc Mauermann (Fraunhofer IVV), Prof. Dr. Angela Rösen-Wolff (Vice-Rector Research TU Dresden) and Richard Clemens (VDMA) opened the three-day conference. Afterwards, the 125 participants from 43 countries learned about the latest developments in the field of industrial soiling and cleaning research for food production thorugh 43 presentations and 23 posters on display in the Penck Hotel.
The fotograph shows the TU Dresden delegation with scientists from the Chair of Processing Machines/ Processing Technology, the Chair of Food Engineering, and the Chair of Fluid Mechanics.
The program was completed with exciting industrial visits to Sachsenmilch and the Lohrmanns and Radeberger breweries. The personal and professional exchange then continued at tour of the city at an excellent conference dinner in the Sophienkeller restaurant.
Outstanding scientific achievements were honored with prizes. The scientists from TU Dresden were able to accomplish numerous successes, which emphasize the quality of their research into cleaning technology:
FCFP Young Researcher Award, sponsored by EHEDG:
Jury Prize for Conference Paper
1st place: Matti Heide, TU Dresden
with "New Strategies for Monitoring and Improving Flushing Processes used in Chocolate Manufacturing", a paper on the development of novel and resource-saving strategies for flushing processes in the chocolate industry and identification of potential detection systems
2nd place: Oleg Barteld, TU Dresden
with "Experimental and Numerical Investigation into the Cleaning of particulate Soils based on Swelling and Adhesion Behavior", a work on the further development and application of a cleaning simulation for film-like soiling to realistic particulate soiling
3rd place: Felicitas Aselmeyer, TU Braunschweig
with "Scaling-Related Phenomena of Cleaning Protein Based Soils in Micro Structured Equipment"
Best Poster Award (sponsored by KRONES):
Audience award for exhibited posters
1st place: Maro Malliaroudaki (University of Nottingham)
with "A Multi-Level Energy Modeling Approach for Tackling Fouling in Milk Manufacturing"
2nd place: Sebastian Kricke (TUD VAT)
with "Conceptual Development of a standardized Method Catalog for Characterization of cleaning-relevant Properties in the Food Industry"
3rd place: Sebastian Gottschall (Fraunhofer IVV Dresden)
