The aim of the work is to investigate the effects of different process variables during the machining of wood-based materials on the kinetics of chip release and the characteristic features of the particles formed (size and shape descriptors). The chip properties are to be determined by carrying out machining tests with different materials and tools. In particular, the results of the investigations represent property distributions that can be used as boundary conditions in particle simulations to support the optimization of extraction processes.
