Scientist at NOVA Ocean Innovation Challenge

Participants in the NOVA Ocean Innovation Challenge by the sea near Lisbon.
Lena Berthold, researcher at the Chair of Processing Machines/ Processing Technology, took part in the EUTOPIA Ocean Innovation Challenge from May 5th to May 9th on behalf of TU Dresden.
The 5-day workshop was organized by NOVA University Lisbon. The participants from 7 universities of the EUTOPIA alliance took up the challenge to solve 3 ocean-related challenges:
- aquaculture for clams in unused marine assets
- development of a multifunctional sensor buoy
- protection of marine ecosystems in diversely used marine areas
The challenges were all tackled by international and interdisciplinary teams. They aimed for sustainable, creative and innovative solutions to the challenges. The workshop provided convincing training in creativity techniques, international and intercultural communication and professional insights into the scientific life of the other participants.
The staff at NOVA University put together a varied program and gave all participants a very warm and hospitable welcome. This also allowed the participants to get to know NOVA University and the city of Lisbon a little better.
A great experience!
