Periodic Hills
Geometry as proposed in [Mellen, Fröhlich, Rodi, Proc. IMACS Conference, Lausanne, 2000]
Test case geometry:
Typical mean streamlines:
GRIDS:
Three grids were used in this reference and later papers by the same and other authors.
The coarsest one yields substantial sensitivity to subgrid-scale and wall modelling as experienced in [Temmermann, Leschziner, Mellen, Fröhlich, IJHFF,2003].
The medium grid and the fine grid look as follows.
They can be downloaded here: wall-function_grid wall-resolving_grid README.txt readgrids.f
RESULTS:
Reference data from [Mellen, Fröhlich, Rodi, Proc. IMACS Conference, 2000] can be downloaded here.
These data, together with a companion simulation of Temmerman and Leschziner were analyzed in detail in a recent paper .
ANIMATIONS:
3D Visualization of coherent structures by means of a pressure-perturbation surface here .
2D Visualization of the streamwise velocity component in a vertical plane here .
This case served as test case in several benchmarking efforts such as
