Demonstration device for deep cleaning of contaminated porous stone surfaces (geostones) by hydrodynamic cavitation impact to restore water permeability in accordance with standards
The use of porous stone types ("geostones") on sidewalks and squares in cities and municipalities is a contribution to reducing land sealing. Due to the water-permeable form of the geostones, the precipitation water percolates locally into the soil and thus reaches the groundwater directly. However, the infiltration capacity of such geosites deteriorates over the course of a few years despite regular surface treatment. In this process, the pores of the geostones become more deeply blocked by different types of soiling and their complex composition (including tire abrasion, sand, natural fibers). Due to the persistence of the deep-seated contamination, the application of conventional surface treatments is not effective.
The GeoReiKa project involves the development of a mobile demonstration device that enables the sustainable deep cleaning of heavily soiled and thus water-impermeable concrete block surfaces by the action of hydrodynamic cavitation. The solution approach consists of first realizing a suitable, realistic model soiling and thus establishing reproducible test conditions. Subsequently, experimental and numerical studies on the physical parameters relevant to the process will be carried out in order to enable the development and design of the mobile device at the project partner.
