Guest Scientist Dr.-Ing. Samander Ali Malik conducts AI research at ITM
From June to August 2026, the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden welcomed Dr.-Ing. Samander Ali Malik from Mehran University in Pakistan as a guest scientist. His research stay was supported by the DAAD Re-invitation Program for Former Scholarship Holders 2026, which enables former DAAD scholarship holders to return to Germany for research and professional exchange.
During his stay at ITM, Dr. Malik focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in textile processes. The increasing availability of process data, combined with advances in machine learning and AI methods, offers new opportunities to better understand, monitor and optimize complex textile manufacturing processes. The integration of AI into textile production can contribute to more data-driven process control, improved quality assurance and the identification of process–structure relationships. In particular, AI-based approaches have the potential to support the analysis of complex textile processes and to enable more efficient and adaptive manufacturing strategies.
Dr. Malik’s research stay provided an opportunity to investigate these approaches within the research environment at ITM and to exchange knowledge with researchers working on textile technologies, process simulation and advanced materials. The collaboration also strengthened the scientific exchange between ITM and Dr. Malik’s academic network and provided a valuable basis for future joint research activities.
